SUMMER 2014 WISHLIST

Hi everyone! The shops seem suddenly to be full of things that I want at the moment, so I thought it was about time I did another wishlist. This is only a snapshot of the things I'm lusting after, but I hope it gives you a bit of an idea of the looks I want to be going for this summer. (Links and prices below.)

1, 3 & 6 - White Crop Top - Missguided (£5.99), Sunflower Bralet - Missguided (£9.99) and Folk Print Bralet - Topshop (£16). - I think these cropped bralets are complete summer staples, and are perfect for festivals thrown on over a pair of high waisted shorts. They also look great under sheet tops and shirts, and can be dressed up or down dependent on the occasion. I just want every colour and print!
2 - Pink Plastic Round Framed Sunglasses - Missguided (£5.99) - I've wanted a pair of these ever since I saw a similar pair on Alexa Chung. They're so cute and fun, and you can never have too many pairs of sunglasses as they're a summer essential.
4 - Black Fringed Chiffon Kimono - H&M (£29.99) - I'm imagining this worn with a pair of high waisted shorts and a bralet at a festival. I love the tassels as they add a great folky/festival vibe, whilst the black keeps it chic and versatile. This could also work as a beach cover up.
5 - Black and Cream Hair Scrunchies - Topshop (£4.50 each) - I've loved wearing my hair half up half down in a bun recently, and I think a scrunchie can add a really cute and fun element to a hairstyle. They're so 90s and I love them. Plus, they're a lot better for your hair than ordinary elastic hair bands.
7 - Black Quilted Joggers - H&M (£29.99) - I tried these on a few weeks ago back in Oxford and absolutely loved how they looked with a high necked white vest top. I didn't buy them at the time and I haven't been able to find them in the shops since! As you know, I love the sports luxe trend and these are perfect for that. They'd look great with a pair of simple heels and are super comfortable.
8 - Borbaflor Two Piece - Adidas Originals x The Farm Company - (Top £25, Shorts £30) - I am obsessed with this collection and have been for a few months now. Unfortunately, these are all sold out! I will get my hands on them eventually, though. I've wanted a two piece for so long but haven't found a print I've loved enough to buy... until I found this! I love the way they've combined sports with a girly print and I think they're just perfect for summer (and reasonable affordable, considering.) If I could actually get my hands on this I'd never stop wearing it.
9 - Casio Watch - Urban Outfitters (£50) - I don't really wear watches, but I've wanted to get one for a while now. I feel it's about time I start wearing one! I love this Casio one as it's so timeless. (excuse the pun) (there was no excuse for that)
10 - High Waisted Levi Shorts in Charcoal Grey - Ebay (£19.50) - High waisted shorts are just a festival must-have and somehow I still haven't got my hands on a pair of Levi ones! I'm imagining these paired with a white crop top, kimono and pair of sunglasses at T in the Park this summer. Please?

OUTFIT OF THE DAY/NIGHT: ALL BLACK

BLACK SQUARE NECK CROP TOP: H&M - £9.99
BLACK MAXI SKIRT W/SPLIT: H&M - £12.99
SANDALS: H&M - £12.99

You can never go wrong with an all black outfit, especially when trying out things you don't feel that comfortable in! Despite what you might think from this photo, I've had (and still do have!) a vendetta against Birkenstocks. However, I felt that this pair from H&M were slightly different as they were without the cork lining (I have no idea and no wish to know the technical term for it) or toe post. I think they look great and a little bit different, especially when paired with a maxi skirt or pair of trousers. They're actually really comfortable and I think I'll get a lot of wear out of them this summer.  I also finally gave in and bought myself a jersey maxi skirt. I've always felt a bit self concious in maxi skirts (no idea why), but I'd really like to get into wearing them more often. I love the split in this one and I think it'll be a great staple piece all year round.

HOW I STYLE: DAYTIME HEELS

Hey everyone! Today I decided to film a video (+ write this blog post) about wearing heels in the daytime. A few weeks ago one of my friends remarked that she liked how I wore heels a lot for casual events, but that she felt she didn't know how to do it. I've tried to explain my thought processes behind these outfits below, but there's no particular art to it if I'm totally honest - you just have to have self confidence and if you want to wear something - wear it! Try not to worry about what other people think. It's unlikely people are thinking anything negative, and even if they are, the most important thing is that you feel good in what you're wearing. Life's too short! The worst that's going to happen is that you get painful feet, so go for it. I always feel that wearing heels makes me feel that little bit more confident.

1. For this outfit I really decided to tone down the heels (as they can easily look quite dressy) and make it super casual. Baggy mom/boyfriend jeans are perfect for this, and paired with a baggy jumper and rucksack these heels don't look out of place at all. On a hotter summer's day a plain oversized t-shirt would look just as casual, and chic!

2. This outfit is slightly more dressed up, but I feel it's more cute and girly than overdressed. The thing which really tones this outfit down is the big, slouchy bag - if you're worried about looking too dressed up but don't want to change your clothes, try to alter your accessories.

WHITE FAUX LEATHER SKATER SKIRT: RIVER ISLAND
SHOES: ASOS
BAG: PRIMARK

3. This outfit is quite transitional, so it could be worn day or night. I really just wanted to include my kimono! Again, the slouchy bag really creates the casual effect here. Heeled boots are a good way to get into wearing daytime heels (these are the first ones I ever wore!) as you can pair them with anything and they're not too high or statement, they just add that extra element to an outfit.

KIMONO: TOPSHOP
JONI JEANS: TOPSHOP
SHOES: ASOS
BAG: PRIMARK

4. Although I wouldn't really class my JuJu Babe jelly shoes as a pair of "heels", they do add a bit of height and so are a good option for those who really don't feel they have the confidence to wear proper heels just yet! They're really easy to pair with cute dresses, shorts and jeans.

OUTFIT OF THE DAY: SPORTS LUXE

TOP: URBAN OUTFITTERS - £25
SHOES: OFFICE - £20
BANDEAU - NEW LOOK
SHORTS - TOPSHOP (MADE FROM OLD PAIR OF JONI JEANS)

I am obsessed with this oversized sheer top by Sparkle and Fade at Urban Outfitters! I picked it up last week and have been really excited to post about it since. It's made of the softest material ever, and is great for creating really simple, casual sports looks without being too overstated. I'm not really a fan of those huge baseball shirts with numbers all over them, so I thought this would be a nice way of creating a similar look without being too in your face. I paired it with these flat skater shoes from office and just a simple pair of black shorts to make a minimal statement. I think this top would look great over swimsuits in the summer, too.

OUTFIT OF THE NIGHT: PRIVATE VIEW

TOP: H&M - £9.99
SHORTS: H&M - £14.99
SHOES: TOPSHOP - £55

A couple of weeks ago I attended the private view of my course's end of year exhibition. It was a smart casual event, and so I decided to step out of my comfort zone a little and try to wear something a bit different than just a dress and heels. I stayed safe with monochrome (I'm obsessed), as I had purchased these shorts and crop top from H&M a few weeks prior to the event, and had really wanted to find an excuse to wear them with heeled sandals so that I could actually wear a sports luxe inspired look without feeling like a complete idiot (walking around Tesco dressed like an 80s footballer in drag can make one feel slightly uncomfortable.). An hour before the exhibition opened, my flatmate and I found ourselves in Topshop desperately trying to find some shoes, and so I managed to justify buying these RAMBLE shoes from Topshop on the spur of the moment. I'm actually really glad I bought them as they are real leather, and are the most versatile pair of heels I own (you can literally wear these with anything at any time of day.). I was really pleased with this look, as I think it's a really easy way to create something chic yet effortless, and the great thing about it is that it can go from casual to smart with just a change in shoes. If I were to wear this during the day, I'd probably pair it with a pair of trainers or skater shoes and be good to go.

When was the last time you tried to step out of your comfort zone? If you can't remember - do it!
Elly xx
